NFSU2 on Steam Deck

Community guides describe running the Windows executable through Proton on Steam Deck, but that is not a Valve-supported product listing or a guarantee for every installation. The retail SafeDisc limit is separate; see below before following a disc-install recipe.

Order that matches the written recipes

  1. Install the game from your disc or from an image you made, then the 1.2 patch. See download for what this site will link.
  2. Add SPEED2.EXE as a non-Steam game and pick a current GE-Proton if the default fails. The deckport recipe is the note that names GE-Proton.
  3. Read the widescreen fix release instructions. Its INI describes NoOpticalDriveFix as allowing play without an optical drive, not as SafeDisc authentication. Although the deckport recipe says this satisfies the disc check, that statement is not proof of a DRM bypass or a guaranteed Proton launch.
  4. Choose a Steam Input keyboard layout or the optional Xtended Input XInput plugin. SteamDeckHQ used a community layout after its controller-mod attempt crashed; that is their report, not a test by this guide.

Performance

SteamDeckHQ's classics note covers an ISO install, widescreen, and how the game felt on the hardware they used. Treat their frame numbers as their session. Cap FPS if rain breaks, which is the PCGamingWiki warning and not a Deck-only bug.

Questions people ask

Is there a Deck Verified build?

There is no Steam store listing to carry a Deck Verified status. Community guides add SPEED2.EXE as a non-Steam game.

Which Proton notes exist?

A deckport recipe and a SteamDeckHQ classics note both describe a Proton setup, an ISO or disc install, and the widescreen fix. Read the current recipe because Proton versions move.

Does the widescreen SingleCoreAffinity flag carry over from a desktop?

Not necessarily. Upstream issue #1573 reports hangs with SingleCoreAffinity=1 on some Windows systems, but that is not a Deck test. Back up your INI and test one change at a time; do not copy another machine's configuration as a guarantee.
