ThirteenAG's NFSUnderground2.WidescreenFix corrects display and HUD behavior and provides optional compatibility settings. NoOpticalDriveFix addresses the absence of an optical drive; it is not a SafeDisc or DRM bypass.
Install
- Finish the 1.2 install so SPEED2.EXE is the file you think it is.
- Download the nfsu2 release from WidescreenFixesPack. Put dinput8.dll and the scripts folder in the game directory.
- Read scripts/NFSUnderground2.WidescreenFix.ini from that release. Keep FixHUD enabled; HudAspectRatioConstraint accepts Auto, 16:9, 21:9, or a custom ratio in the current source INI. Resolution controls differ between builds; do not add keys from an older tutorial blindly.
- Launch once. If the picture is correct, stop. Do not stack a second "widescreen exe".
When it fails
Issue #1573 reports a black-screen hang with SingleCoreAffinity=1; #1649 reports problems after a Windows 11 24H2 update. These are user reports, not a universal diagnosis. Back up the INI, then try SingleCoreAffinity=0 or a windowed mode separately. See the crash page for the unresolved loading-freeze report.
| Key | Role |
|---|---|
| NoOpticalDriveFix | Compatibility for systems without an optical drive; not a SafeDisc bypass |
| SingleCoreAffinity | Limit CPU affinity; disable as a diagnostic if it causes a hang |
| FPSLimit | Keep rain and shifts sane |
| HudAspectRatioConstraint | Constrain HUD layout; FixHUD is the aspect-correction switch |

Questions people ask
Which file do I download?
The nfsu2 tag on WidescreenFixesPack. Copy the script folder and dinput8.dll into the game directory next to SPEED2.EXE.
Why is the HUD still oval?
Set HudAspectRatioConstraint in the INI. A 21:9 panel needs that constraint, not only a higher resolution number.
It did nothing. What now?
Confirm you patched Underground 2, not Underground 1, and that another dinput8.dll did not replace the loader.
