The default Windows 10/11 career location is %LOCALAPPDATA%\NFS Underground 2\, as documented by PCGamingWiki. If a modded copy saves elsewhere, inspect CustomUserFilesDirectoryInGameDir in the widescreen INI: it can redirect user files to a specified directory, and 0 disables that redirection. Back up the location your running copy actually uses.
Back up before you experiment
- Close the game.
- Copy the whole NFS Underground 2 folder to a desktop folder named with today's date.
- Only then replace or edit anything.
Importing another profile can replace files you care about; do not blindly overwrite the entire directory. Read the import and edition notes on the full-save page. Extra Options offers unlock toggles, but those are not equivalent to completed career progress.
Other files people confuse with the save
The retail setup can also use DirectInput user maps in Common Files and registry settings, as described by PCGamingWiki. Mods can change this: the widescreen fix's WriteSettingsToFile option redirects registry settings to settings.ini in the profile folder, while Xtended Input has its own INI mappings. Do not delete a save folder as a universal controls or graphics reset.

Questions people ask
Why is there no save next to SPEED2.EXE?
The default modern-Windows location is %LOCALAPPDATA%\NFS Underground 2\. A widescreen-fix setting can redirect user files into a chosen game-directory folder, so check its INI if the default location is empty.
Do browser-port saves land here?
No. nfsu2.xyz stores its own saves. They are not this folder.
Can I edit money in this file?
A third-party editor exists. Back up the folder first. The trainer page covers the risks.
