"NFSU2 online" is not one service. Separate the discontinued EA service from PC LAN and from a browser port's own rooms. An Xbox revival announcement is not proof that a title appears on the revival service's current supported list.
Original services and the Xbox revival claim
The original EA service is discontinued. This review could not verify one exact shutdown date across all editions from an original EA notice, so it does not repeat a uniform date as settled fact. Wikipedia also mentions an Insignia announcement, but Underground 2 was absent from the service's own supported-games page fetched on 23 October 2026. That list takes priority over an assumption based on the announcement.
PC LAN, the part you can still set up
PCGamingWiki lists UDP 3658, no UPnP, six players for Underground Racing League races, and four players for the other modes. Forward that port only if you understand you are exposing a 2004 game binary. A VPN that emulates a LAN is the usual community route. This page does not ship a client.
Browser multiplayer is a third thing
nfsu2.xyz advertises free-roam and Online races on its own server. nfsunderground2.site advertises experimental two-player rooms that synchronize controller inputs between two browser-run games. Neither is the original EA service, and this guide has not tested their matchmaking, latency, or rankings. See the port comparison.
What not to download
Modded clients that promise "NFSU2 online 2026" as an exe are outside this guide. Cheats and trainers are single-player tools and are covered on the trainer page, with the warning that they do not belong on any shared session.

Are the original servers still up?
The original EA online service is no longer available. A secondary page gives a single shutdown date, but this review did not verify an original EA notice establishing the same date for every platform.
Can PC players still race each other?
PCGamingWiki documents LAN play on UDP 3658, with up to six players in URL races and four in other modes. A VPN can carry that LAN. It is not EA matchmaking.
Does Insignia bring back Xbox online?
Do not assume so from an announcement quoted elsewhere. On 23 October 2026 the fetched Insignia supported-games list did not include Underground 2. Check that first-party list and service instructions before treating it as a current option.
