EA did not ship a Mac version in 2004. Wikipedia's platform line has no macOS. Anything that runs on an M-series Mac is a later community effort.
The native route
The current th0mk/nfsu2-web README explicitly retains native macOS build commands alongside the browser build. It identifies Apple Silicon as its tested web-build environment and requires your own specific PC executable and assets. It does not establish a supported Intel release, signed app, minimum macOS version, or guaranteed frame rate. Follow the project's current instructions; see the recompiled page for the source/data distinction.
The browser route
nfsu2.xyz needs WebGPU. If your browser can do that, you can see the game without Wine. You still should not scrape their data directory.
Continue with PC install.
Questions people ask
Does it run in CrossOver or Whisky?
Community reports exist, but SafeDisc and 32-bit Direct3D 9 remain separate compatibility obstacles. A report is not an official Mac edition or a tested setup guide.
What is the native port?
The th0mk/nfsu2-web README says the same source tree still builds a native macOS version and traces its origin to an Apple Silicon recompilation. This review does not verify an Intel binary, macOS version matrix, notarization, or performance cap.
Is the browser easier?
On a Mac, the browser port avoids Wine. Read the recompiled page before you assume the GitHub license includes the game data.
